Dr. Tro Kalayjian

Dr. Tro Kalayjian is a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine. His weight loss story began in childhood, growing up in an obese family. He personally understands the deep emotions and feelings involved with being overweight, as he too has faced these challenges for most of his life.

As a founding member of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners, Dr. Tro lost 150 pounds by challenging conventional medical advice. Now, he is dedicated to helping patients achieve health, prevent disease, and reduce medication dependence.

Dr. Tro’s practice focuses on combating Type 2 diabetes and obesity. Their published 6-month medical weight loss program has yielded impressive results, with an average weight loss of 38 pounds per person. Patients have experienced significant reductions in cardiac risk, a1C levels, blood pressure, and medication costs per year. The practice’s evidence-based approach is supported by seven publications, showcasing the effectiveness of their emphasis on metabolic health.

With a focus on remote patient tracking through smart devices, Dr. Tro stays connected to his patients’ progress. Having personally faced similar challenges, he deeply empathizes with his patients and provides guidance from a relatable perspective. Dr. Tro’s ultimate objective is to reduce medication reliance and improve disease management by implementing lifestyle modifications, emphasizing the importance of diet and exercise.

Dr. Laura Buchanan

Dr. Laura Buchanan is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician and Metabolic Health Practitioner.

The mission that drives her is to help people age successfully. That passion was initially derived from a love of sports but has since evolved and expanded to include a passion for healthy living generally, including the importance of nutrition, exercise, mental wellness, and an optimal use of the medical system. She sees her role as a doctor being two-fold: promoting prevention and practicing medicine.

Since entering the field of medicine Laura has been interested in the intersections of longevity, metabolic health, lifestyle changes and chronic disease. She spends her free time taking deep dives into the latest research around diet, sleep and other factors that may impact metabolic health.

Laura is a certified metabolic health practitioner (MHP) and a founding member of the Society of Metabolic Health Practitioners. She is a member of the Obesity Medicine Association and will be taking her board examination in the fall of 2022.

She is also a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, AOA and the Gold Humanism Society. Laura sees family medicine as a crucial avenue to help people age successfully because of the deep and lasting connections that can be developed with patients. She thrives when given the chance to make an impact, and especially enjoys being a part of her patients’ journeys to healthier lives.

PA-C. Mary Dugandzic

Mary Dugandzic is a board-certified physician assistant having graduated first in her class from Marist College. She is a member of the AAPA and NYSSPA.

After joining Dr. Tros practice in 2021 as a medical assistant, she learned first hand the power that a low carbohydrate diet had on both her physical and mental health. Additionally, she saw how each patient at Dr. Tros practice was treated with an individualized approach as well as with compassion and empathy. During this time with the practice Mary decided to pursue a career in medicine after seeing how the practice combined her interest in both medicine and healthy lifestyle.

After starting her masters in physician assistant studies she returned to the practice for clinical rotations and worked alongside Dr. Tro and Dr. Laura on a variety of patient cases. Additionally, she was the primary author on a case report with the office, which highlighted the important role a ketogenic diet can have in the metabolic derangements seen in cushing’s disease.

She is excited to rejoin the practice in her new role as a physician assistant. She feels privileged to work alongside her patients as they work to prevent, manage and reverse chronic diseases.

Amy Eiges

Amy Eiges is a health coach and reformed chronic dieter who is passionate about helping others recover from the diet-binge-gain-shame cycle she struggled with for years. Since discovering a ketogenic and low-carb lifestyle, she has lost over 200 pounds and has both reversed pre-diabetes and resolved lifelong depression. “When I was just starting out, facing 200 pounds to lose seemed insurmountable, and the idea I would ever be where I am now was unfathomable. Know this: I am not extraordinary. I just finally got the right advice, put one foot in front of the other and didn’t look back. I know now that it can be done, but after battling this war for 40 years I had lost hope that it was really, truly possible. I am living proof that it is.”

Read more about Amy’s story and struggles with food addiction and chronic dieting (“I Am Not Broken”). She also recently wrote a blog entitled “Weathering the Perfect Storm“.

Amy was the featured guest of Episode 84 of the Low Carb MD podcast, and more recently starred in Episode 136 of The Adventures of Keto Woman, a podcast with Daisy Brackenhall.

Brian Wiley

Brian Wiley is a Certified Health Coach who has struggled with food addiction and battled with obesity for most of his life. Being advised with mainstream approaches as his solution, along with the standard, “eat less, move more” resulted in minimal, or no success with eventual regain. In 2009, he reached his highest weight of 265 pounds. His doctor advised and encouraged him to take medications after his blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol reached dangerous levels at the age of only 35.

His commitment to a low carb lifestyle resulted in a 100-pound weight loss, and he was able to reverse his abnormal health markers improving his heart health and avoiding type 2 diabetes. Brian has maintained his weight loss for the last 11 years. “I see people everyday on social media and in real life and they’re struggling. They’re going through the same struggles of food addiction, unhealthy eating patterns, and unsuccessful dieting like I did. I want to serve as an example that this approach can be successful. It is not a fad, and is a healthy long-term lifestyle solution.”

Brian is also an ACE certified personal trainer. Brian was a featured guest on Episode 29 of the Low Carb MD podcast and on Vinnie Tortorich’s Fitness Confidential Saturday Success Story. Recently, Brian was featured in an interview on the Diet Doctor website. The interview was a followup to an interview published in 2017.
